Position Overview

The Logistics Supervisor at Stella-Jones is responsible for overseeing all phases of the business requirements that are achieved safely and efficiently. This individual is also responsible for the supervision of Logistics Coordinators in specific regions (Canada and USA), as well as ensuring that the finished goods yard operates both safely and environmentally compliant, whilst effectively and efficiently working within the guideline of the administrative policies and procedures.

Responsibilties
  • Responsible for optimizing delivery routes. Looks for opportunities in efficiencies throughout the operation, delivery, yard and reports monthly on feedback and suggestions for improvement.
  • Successful execution of delivery planning in various locations.
  • Financial responsibility of freight spend for your region and team.
  • Responsible for managing your team, including but not limited to overseeing dispatching drivers/in-out bound carriers to and from the Finished Goods Yard as needed to supply on-time, cost effective service and coordinate with customer service, drivers, yard coordinators and driver supervisor.
  • Track truck and rail movements to assure that we have a method of monitoring on time pick up and on time delivery.
  • Communicate and resolve issues, problems and concerns with drivers and customers as it relates to service deliveries, claims, directions, driver paperwork, permits and other issues.
  • Look for opportunities to use combined company drivers and contracted carriers to minimize freight cost.
  • Defines high volume one and two-way freight lanes and works to develop advantageous sourcing strategies for each specific freight lane
  • On-call support for company driver questions and needs as they arise including 3rd party drivers and storm response team.
  • Responsible for Finished Goods Yard inventory; performing regular cycle counts and annual inventories.
  • Partner with all internal corporate support resources to ensure compliance with all laws and regulations to achieve results.
  • Monitor vendor and supplier contracts for validity and accuracy, including certificates and agreements as required.
  • Knowledge of all company safety, Department of Transportation (Use the "Apply for this Job" box below). yard Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) programs.
  • Participates and contributes to company safety program.
  • Manage Shippers & Receivers within Western Canada to ensure standard transportation processes are followed and maintain customer expectations and lead times.
  • Responsible for performance management, training, vacation requests, recruitment, etc. for the Shippers and Receivers in conjunction with the Plant Managers.
  • Monitor team and department success by tracking freight costs for all modes. Use Power BI reports, in conjunction with SAP and MRP tools to drive business success.
  • Prepare data and presentations to report on your team and department’s success.
  • Willing and able to travel for vacation coverage and cross training as required.
  • Complete Manager and supervisor training modules not limited to but including cultural and environmental awareness.
Qualifications

Required:
  • 5+ years of overall Logistics work experience
  • 2+ years of specialized trucking and rail experience
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Valid Passport

  • Team leadership / supervisory experience
