Location: Merritt
Get involved with bluebird conservation efforts as a Box Monitor with VARC in Merrit, British Columbia. Help evaluate the nesting success of bluebirds from May through August in this rewarding volunteer position.
Volunteers will be assigned routes to monitor 15-20 bluebird boxes every 10 days. You'll gather data on bluebird species, nests, and chick development while receiving training and support from experienced team members. This is an excellent chance to connect with nature and your community.
Key Responsibilities:
• Monitor bluebird box routes every 10 days
• Record species, eggs, and chicks in boxes
• Estimate and report chick ages during monitoring
• Collaborate with over 20 volunteer team members
• Participate in provided training sessions
Requirements:
• Must possess a valid Driver's License
• Own a laptop with internet capabilities and a camera
• Commitment for the entire breeding season
• Communicate if unable to fulfill checking responsibilities
• Passion for environmental conservation and birdlife
