About Highland Valley CopperHighland Valley Copper (HVC) Operations is Canada’s largest open-pit copper mine and molybdenum operation. HVC produces both copper and molybdenum concentrate through autogenous and semi-autogenous grinding and flotation.
Located approximately 17 kilometers west of Logan Lake and about 50 kilometers southwest of Kamloops in British Columbia, the surrounding areas of HVC have an abundant offering of outdoor experiences.
Role OverviewReporting to the Senior Geologist, the Geological Technician will support the Logging Geologists by preparing drill core, verifying core quality, completing geomechanical logging under supervision and collecting a range of physical properties data. In addition to these responsibilities, the successful candidate must have strong problem solving, interpersonal and communication skills and be a motivated self‑starter who can remain organized and prioritize demands in a fast‑paced team environment.
The successful candidate will also support various team members by assisting in the core shack, learning about the porphyry systems and get exposure to geological modelling.
- Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
- Support Logging Geologists by preparing drill core for processing, including layout, orientation, and quality checks
- Operate specialized technical equipment to scan drill core and collect physical properties and geoscience data
- Assist with geomechanical (geotechnical) core logging under supervision, ensuring accuracy and attention to detail
- Coordinate and assist with sample preparation, tracking, and shipment
- Maintain an organized and efficient core facility to support daily operations
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support the geology team
- Certificate or diploma in Geology or a related field; an equivalent combination of education and relevant hands‑on experience will also be considered
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively within a team environment
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy and quality
- Valid driver’s license
- Proficient computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Word and Excel
Pay Range: CAD $76,000 - $94,000 per year
The actual amount offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.

Highland Valley Copper is a 50‑minute drive from Kamloops, which has all of the comforts of city living and is also close to Merritt, Ashcroft, and Logan Lake, which all exude a small town community atmosphere. - Access:
This is a drive‑in/drive‑out role. Most employees commute to site by car, and carpooling is common among team members.
