About Highland Valley CopperHighland Valley Copper (HVC) Operations is Canada’s largest open-pit copper mine and molybdenum operation. HVC produces both copper and molybdenum concentrate through autogenous and semi-autogenous grinding and flotation.
Located approximately 17 kilometers west of Logan Lake and about 50 kilometers southwest of Kamloops in British Columbia, the surrounding areas of HVC have an abundant offering of outdoor experiences.
Role OverviewReporting to the Senior Geologist, the Logging Geologist will be responsible for the core shack or their designate. The Logging Geologist is responsible for the safe, effective and accurate collection of geological data from drill core. The successful candidate must understand how core logging data contributes to the broader porphyry system and how observations feed into resource, geoscience and mill performance models.
In addition to these responsibilities, the Logging Geologist will demonstrate strong problem-solving, interpersonal, and communication skills, along with the ability to stay organized and effectively prioritize competing demands in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. As a motivated self-starter, the successful candidate will also support the broader geology team by updating Leapfrog models, contributing to geometallurgical initiatives, and assisting with data management and QA/QC processes.
Key Responsibilities- Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
- Ensure a safe and efficient workflow in the core facility through safety inspections and ensuring good housekeeping practice
- Complete accurate, high-quality drill logs using available geochemical and hyperspectral data
- Oversee the collection of geotechnical data and verify its accuracy and completeness
- Communicate effectively with the geology team on drill hole progress, observations and key findings
- Support data management activities including QA/QC of geological and geoscience data sets
- Assist with the selection and tracking of Geometallurgy samples
- Contribute to updating and refining geological models using Leapfrog
- Ensure all core logging activities are completed safely, efficiently and to a high standard
- Bachelor’s degree in Geology or a related discipline
- Membership with, or eligibility for registration as a Geoscientist-in-Training (GIT) or Professional Geoscientist (P.Geo) with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC)
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience in porphyry exploration or mining operation
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams
- Valid driver’s license
- Proficient computer skills; experience with machine learning applications is considered a strong asset
- Experience with Leapfrog geological modeling software is considered a strong asset
CAD $107,000 - $132,000 per year.
