The Resource Stewardship Division is a collaborative team of biologists, scientists, and stewardship professionals who work across the Thompson Okanagan Region with First Nations, communities, industry, and government partners to conserve fish, wildlife, and habitats across British Columbia. We value diverse perspectives and inclusive collaboration, recognizing that strong stewardship is strengthened by a variety of experiences, knowledge systems, and voices.
The RoleThe Ecosystems Biologist in the Thompson Okanagan Region supports conservation of fish, wildlife, and habitats through science-based assessments, monitoring, and ecosystem management planning. The role develops mitigation and species recovery strategies and reviews environmental impacts in collaboration with First Nations, communities, industry, and government partners. The work is grounded in inclusive, respectful engagement and values diverse perspectives and knowledge systems to support effective stewardship.
Qualifications- Master's degree in biological sciences or a related field and two (2) years of related experience; OR
- Bachelor's degree in biological sciences or a related field and four (4) years of related experience.
- Experience conducting species/habitat monitoring including field-based assessments.
- Experience assessing the impacts of proposed developments on species/habitats and providing mitigation measures to offset adverse effects.
- Experience managing complex and sensitive natural resource management issues/projects.
- Experience interpreting and applying natural resource management legislation and policy in British Columbia.
- Master's degree in field relevant to the position (e.g., ecology, conservation biology, wildlife biology, plant biology, environmental management).
- Experience providing advice within a regulatory regime related to terrestrial or aquatic ecosystems management.
- Registered, or immediately eligible for registration, as a Registered Professional Biologist (RPBio) in B.C. with the College of Applied Biologists (CAB).
- Valid B.C. driver’s licence.
- Must be willing and able to meet safety standards of Work Safe BC.
- Must be willing and able to travel, including working evenings, weekends, and holidays when required.
- Must be willing and able to conduct physically demanding field work.
- Must be willing and able to carry and operate a variety of equipment, as required.
- Must be willing and able to conduct field work, which may include the following: travel to remote areas by vehicle, boat, air or foot, stay in rough camp conditions and outdoor work in all weather conditions.
