We are seeking a skilled Powerline Technician to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the construction, maintenance, and repair of overhead and underground power lines. This role requires working in various weather conditions, often at heights, and as part of a team committed to safety and quality.
Please Note:
This position is based in Kamloops, and candidates must reside locally or within a reasonable commuting distance.
Responsibilities:
Construct, maintain, and repair overhead and underground electrical power transmission and distribution systems
Climb poles, operate bucket trucks, and use hot-line tools safely and effectively
Install, maintain, and repair overhead and underground power lines and cables, and other associated equipment
Interpret technical drawings, work orders, and blueprints
Perform switching operations and work on energized lines using rubber glove and hot stick techniques
Troubleshoot outages and restore power in emergency situations
Maintain tools, equipment, and vehicles in safe working condition
Adhere to all safety standards, procedures, and regulations
Mentor apprentices and junior personnel in tasks, safety protocols, and equipment use
Assist with maintaining a safe work environment and adhere to occupational health and safety regulations
Participate in health and safety related duties
Other related duties as required
Requirements:
Able to work as part of a crew and independently with minimal supervision
Positive attitude and a willingness to learn
Able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
Knowledge of utility standards, OH&S regulations, and safe work practices
Good mechanical aptitude
Able to lift heavy objects (up to 50 lbs) safely and efficiently
Able to crouch and bend through the shift
Capable of working at heights, confined spaces, trenches and excavations
Good hand-eye coordination
Precise and detailed in work
Strong commitment to personal safety and the safety of others
Strong “can-do” approach to work
Safety equipment will be required, e.g. steel-toed safety boots, safety glasses/goggles, etc.
Education and Experience:
Red Seal Journeyman Powerline Technician Trade Certification
Class 3 Drivers Licence with air required (Class 1 preferred)
Minimum 5 years of experience in powerline construction and maintenance
Valid First Aid Certificate
Working Environment:
Work both indoors and outdoors in extreme winter and summer conditions
Travel to off-site locations will be required
Overtime may be required
Hazards associated with the trade
Rate: $62.48/hour
