Position: Work Equipment Heavy Duty Mechanic (Mechanic A)
Job Summary The Heavy-Duty Mechanic (HDM) is responsible for performing inspections, major and minor repairs, overhauls and servicing on all types of Maintenance of way equipment (Heavy duty equipment).
Working Conditions
The role operates either on a 9-days-on, 5-days-off or 8-days-on, 6-days-off rotational schedule away from homeAbility to work irregular shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime90% field environment from a service truckRegular travel up to 90%Willing to travel for work across British Colombia, Alberta and SaskatchewanCompany provided accommodationsAbility to work full time from a service truck
Major Responsibilities
Heavy Duty Mechanics (HDM) perform major and minor repairs, overhauls and servicing on all types of Maintenance of way equipmentInspect, service and maintain Maintenance of way equipment, in accordance with federal and company regulations, including repairing, replacing, cleaning and adjusting partsDiagnose diesel engine malfunctions and make required repairsUse electric and oxy-acetylene welding equipment, lubrication equipment and other repair tools and equipment, and operate said tools and machinery in a safe and effective mannerPrepare inspection, maintenance, and work reports, and record details on prescribed forms in accordance with established proceduresOperate a service truck (F550 or similar) in accordance with federal and company policies
Requirements
High School Diploma or General Educational Development (GED)Red Seal in either Heavy Duty Mechanic, Commercial Transport Mechanic, or Automotive Mechanic.A valid driver’s licenseUsing measuring devices and understanding visual displaysBasic technical knowledge of diesel mechanicsGood hand-eye coordinationDedicated to getting the job done while meeting established standards of quality, safety, and client satisfactionFrequent lifting / carrying up to 50 lbs. (22 kg)
Assets
Ability to certify company equipment in accordance with federal standardsExperience troubleshooting hydraulic and electronic systemsWelding skills
