Duties and Responsibilities
( Denotes Essential Functions)
* Design, develop, implement, and coordinate initiatives which enhance student retention and completion of the Veterinary Technology Program in collaboration with the Dean, the Veterinary Technology Program Director, and faculty.
* Develop and implement a seamless advising program for Veterinary Assisting and Veterinary Technician prospective and enrolled students that includes enrollment, degree planning, course registration, career readiness, personal, financial, and other support services seamless referral system to connect prospective and enrolled students to academic, personal, financial, and other support services.
* Conduct outreach and schedule visits to high schools, community, or education events. Conduct presentations about veterinary paraprofessional careers, programs, and resources. Assignment may include evenings, weekends, and/or travel to locations off campus.
* Receive referrals and serve as front-line staff to provide one-stop services to prospective students.
* Advise and assist students with college application, program-specific course requirements, selection, and registration process, and/or related support services for the Veterinary Assisting and Veterinary Technician programs.
* Collect and secure registration and program-required documents for Veterinary Assisting and Veterinary Technician program students in the onboarding process.
* Research and assist students to apply for financial aid, scholarships, and financial resources both within the UH system and specific to the Veterinary Technology Program.
* Create and implement an academic advising program for all enrolled Veterinary Assisting and Veterinary Technician students, including but not limited to specific degree planning, career development, internships, and financial aid.
* Advise and meet with students at least quarterly to ensure understanding of academic and institutional policies and procedures to ensure their continuous enrollment.
* Instruct students on how to use STAR, STAR GPS, MyUH, and other software tools for Veterinary Assisting and Veterinary Technician students.
* Monitor student progress at least quarterly through STAR GPS and other tools and report on their progress to the program faculty, WCC counselors, and the Dean.
* Follow up with students to make recommendations and create a plan of action to improve academic progress. Monitor student progress toward academic progress.
* Attend and participate in meetings with the Veterinary Technology Program and Student affairs for program updates, revised requirements, and student progress. Inform prospective and current students of updates, implement updates and program changes, and follow up with students of concern.
* Create meeting agendas, reports, announcements, and spreadsheets for the Veterinary Technology Program. Organize and share documents while maintaining confidentiality of information.
* Design and implement a communication system utilizing the current UH technology resources to communicate announcements and share resources with students and faculty that supports student success.
* Collaborate with the Veterinary Technology Program to develop and implement innovative curriculum, delivery models, and programs that promote and ensure student success.
* Conduct follow-up with students no longer progressing in the Veterinary Technology Program to improve and continue in their chosen program, seek other educational options, and/or access support and resource services.
* Develop and disseminate outreach materials such as electronic and printed publications to stimulate interest in Veterinary Technology.
