Position Overview
The Grade 8 Math Teacher is responsible for creating a supportive, high‑energy, and academically rigorous learning environment. The focus is on guiding students through critical algebraic, geometric, and statistical concepts while preparing them emotionally and academically for the transition to high school mathematics.
KeyRoles & Responsibilities
Develop and implement engaging lesson plans aligned with state or national standards (e.g., Common Core, CBSE, or local curricula). Topics include linear equations and systems, functions, the Pythagorean Theorem, geometric transformations, irrational numbers, exponents, and scientific notation. Adapt teaching methods to meet diverse learner needs, provide scaffolded support, and offer extension activities for advanced learners. Bridge abstract concepts with real‑world scenarios to address students’ questions about relevance.
Design, administer, and grade quizzes, tests, projects, and daily homework. Analyze assessment data to identify learning gaps, adjust whole‑class instruction or small‑group interventions, and provide timely, specific, actionable feedback focused on problem‑solving processes.
Cultivate a growth‑mindset culture where mistakes are learning opportunities, reduce math anxiety, and establish clear rules, routines, and expectations. Organize a structured learning space, manage resources, calculators, and instructional technology.
Maintain open communication with parents/guardians through emails, calls, and conferences. Collaborate with fellow teachers, vertical math teams, and special education staff in PLCs. Coordinate with counselors to recommend appropriate 9th‑grade placements.
Engage in continuous professional development, stay current on modern math pedagogy and technology tools such as Desmos and Geo Gebra. Participate in staff meetings, school events, and support extracurricular math clubs or competitions.
Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Secondary Education, or a related field.
- Valid state teaching credential or license in Middle School Math or Secondary Mathematics.
- Exceptional patience, strong communication abilities, a sense of humor, and a deep understanding of adolescent development, especially for 13‑to‑14‑year‑olds.
