Position: Molokai Middle: Grade 8 US History Teacher, 65948 (2026-02652)

Job Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver engaging, standards‑based lessons covering the major eras of early U.S. History (Exploration through Reconstruction).
  • Promote historical thinking skills, including chronological reasoning, source analysis, and cause‑and‑effect relationships.
  • Differentiate instruction and materials to meet the diverse needs of 8th‑grade learners, including IEP, 504, ELL, and advanced students.
  • Guide students in civic literacy: foundations of American democracy, the U.S. Constitution, and citizenship rights and responsibilities.
  • Develop, administer, and grade a variety of formative and summative assessments (quizzes, projects, essays, exams).
  • Use student performance data to identify learning gaps, adjust pacing, and implement targeted interventions.
  • Provide constructive, timely feedback to encourage academic growth and accountability.
  • Establish and maintain a safe, inclusive, and structured classroom culture rooted in mutual respect and high academic expectations.
  • Support the social‑emotional and developmental needs of young adolescents.
  • Apply proactive and restorative behavior management strategies and enforce school and classroom policies consistently.
  • Collaborate with the Social Studies department and Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) to align curriculum, share best practices, and analyze student outcomes.
  • Maintain open, proactive communication with parents and guardians regarding student progress and behavior through email, phone, and conferences.
  • Participate in required staff meetings, professional development days, and school‑wide events during the 10‑month contract.
Job Requirements / Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in History, Secondary Education, or a related field.
  • Valid State Teaching Certification for Middle School Social Studies / Secondary History (Grade
    8).
  • Prior experience teaching middle‑school‑aged students is highly preferred.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree is required for all teaching positions (except designated CTE roles).
  • Applicants without a completed Teacher’s Education Program must obtain a valid Hawaii teaching license within three years of hire and enroll in a program to continue employment.
  • Applicants must actively pursue meeting Hawaii licensing requirements as set forth by the Hawaii Teacher Standards Board (HTSB).
