Position: SUPERVISORY INTERDISCIPLINARY GENERAL ENGINEER / ARCHITECT

Summary

Serve as a Supervisory Interdisciplinary General Engineer / Architect in the Design and Construction Division of the Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command (NAVFAC) in Hawaii.

Responsibilities
  • Supervise a group of engineers/architects and support community management efforts.
  • Resolve complaints from individual employees.
  • Evaluate performance of subordinates to ensure timely, satisfactory quality of work.
  • Enforce technical and administrative provisions related to the management of assigned construction contracts.
  • Manage programs and projects within the product line, accomplishing objectives within resource constraints.
  • Apply advanced concepts, principles, and practices in engineering and architecture to serve as an expert-level construction manager.
  • Develop creative and technically sound solutions to engineering/architecture problems beyond standard processes.
  • Advise senior management on best courses of action for construction projects.
  • Lead resolution of technical engineering and architecture issues for an assigned branch.
Qualifications
  • Current registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) or Architect (RA) in any state, D.C., Puerto Rico, or Guam.
  • At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS‑12 grade level or pay band, demonstrating:
    • Applying advanced concepts and leading other engineers/architects.
    • Developing creative solutions to complex problems.
    • Advising senior management.
    • Leading resolution of technical issues.
Education
  • Successful completion of a professional engineering degree leading to a bachelor’s degree from an ABET‑accredited program or a program with required coursework.
  • Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a PE by any state, D.C., Guam, or Puerto Rico.
  • Evidence of passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination or other written test required for licensure.
  • Successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences covering specified fundamentals.
  • Successful completion of a curriculum leading to a bachelor’s degree in an appropriate scientific field (e.g. engineering technology, physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology) with at least one year of professional engineering experience under supervision.
Additional Information

This position is covered by the Department of Defense Priority Placement Program. Candidate eligibility for veteran, military spouse, and other special hiring preferences is assessed as part of the selection process. The position may also qualify for Department of the Navy policy on the employment of annuitants.
