Civil Engineer VI – Wastewater Engineering and Construction Division
Three (3) vacancies across three branches:
- Collection System Engineering Branch
: responsible for engineering, design, and administrative work related to the planning, directing, developing, and reviewing of plans, specifications, cost estimates, engineering studies, and construction support for all City‑initiated gravity sewer improvements, including sewer tunnels, interceptor sewers, medium‑sized trunk sewers, and smaller sewers. - Construction Management Branch
: manages Field Engineering Section C, inspects construction of any wastewater facility, administers consultant contracts, and ensures professional development of staff and adherence to safety practices, rules, and procedures. - Plant Engineering Branch
: leads the Plant Engineering Section and handles engineering, design, and administrative work connected with planning, directing, developing, and reviewing of plans, specifications, cost estimates, engineering studies, and construction support for all City‑initiated wastewater facilities projects, including treatment facilities, air/odor control facilities, monitoring facilities, disposal facilities, reuse facilities, pumps, and force mains.
- Occasional exposure to construction and traffic hazards, sewage gases, treatment chemicals, paint fumes, noise, electrical hazards, and moving equipment.
- Some physical dexterity needed for field investigations: climbing ladders, descending into trenches, tanks, and manholes, crawling through pipes, carrying sampling equipment, measuring and testing equipment, and walking on uneven or obstructed surfaces.
- Regular hours anticipated but may require shift, evening, night, weekend, or holiday work to accommodate unusual problems or workload.
- Will serve as a Disaster Response Worker during declared civil defense emergencies.
One (1) vacancy in the Department of Design and Construction, Facilities Division.

Education RequirementsGraduation from a regionally accredited four‑year college or university with a bachelor’s degree in an engineering specialty.
Experience RequirementsThree years of registered professional civil engineering experience, including or supplemented by one year of supervising or being responsible for an engineering operation or function.
