Position OverviewThe Engineer V supervises planning, design, construction, maintenance, and/or operation of major and complex engineering projects. They work independently on advanced planning, design, or research projects involving highly critical or unprecedented elements, and perform other related duties as assigned. Engineers at the V level handle assignments characterized by breadth, diversity, and intensity, plan and conduct work where precedent criteria are inadequate or controversial, provide technical guidance on critical problems, and review work prepared by other professional engineers or contract firms.
Eligibilityand Qualifications
- Legal Authorization to Work
:
Citizens, nationals, permanent residents of the United States, or those eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment. - Professional License
:
Must possess a valid State of Hawai‘i Professional Engineer license at the time of application. - Basic Education
:
Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited four‑year college or university. Relevant substitutions apply. - Engineering Experience
:
Four (4) years of progressively responsible professional engineering experience; at least one (1) year comparable to the next lower level. - Supervisory Aptitude
:
Applicants must possess supervisory aptitude as described in the complete Minimum Qualification Requirements. - Driver's License
:
Some positions may require a valid driver’s license. - Special Requirements
:
Some positions may require the ability to lift and carry items of various weights with or without reasonable accommodation.
Graduating Applicants
:
Applicants who will graduate within three months and meet the Minimum Qualification Requirements upon graduation may be accepted for examination. Provide official transcript, enrollment verification, and expected graduation date with the application.
