Job SummaryThe Nursing Assistant (NA) serves as caregiver to the resident during the scheduled work period in assisted living. The NA provides resident-centered nursing care and daily living assistance to assigned resident under the supervision of a charge nurse. The NA provides assistance with basic health care needs including daily living activities such as bathing, toileting, grooming, dressing/undressing, obtaining and recording vital signs, and providing psychosocial support and other personal care to the assigned resident.
The NA may assist with transferring, repositioning, walking using correct transfer techniques and equipment, and performing range of motion and passive exercises. The NA completes tasks related to food preparation and dining, creates a positive dining experience, assists residents with meals and snacks, and provides water and supplements as appropriate. The NA may assist providers and nursing staff with procedures, collect non‑invasive body fluid specimens, gather vital signs, and may administer prescribed medications as delegated by a licensed nurse within state regulations.
The NA documents outcomes related to resident care, medication administration, behavior, activity, and dietary, and communicates changing condition, medication follow‑up and care‑related concerns to the charge nurse. Depending on location, the NA may provide housekeeping and laundry services, assist with wellness and recreational programs, and encourage resident participation. The NA must adhere to infection prevention and control policies and use personal protective equipment.
The nursing department provides care 24 hours/day; employee may be required to work rotating shifts, weekends and holidays. Shift assignments will be based on nursing area and location, and student training may require direction by employees.
- High school graduate or GED (preferred but not required)
- Minimum age of 16
- Prior clinical or nursing assistant experience in assisted living preferred
- Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification with State Board of Nursing required
- Completion of yearly department‑specific competency testing and maintenance of continuing education credits (minimum 12 hours annually)
- Maintenance of all department‑specific required certifications
- Certified and registered with Unlicensed Assistive Person (UAP) Registry where applicable
- Role may classify as Sanford Category II Driver requiring motor vehicle report, proof of valid driver’s license, and medical qualification per Sanford Driving Policy
