Job SummaryThe Nursing Assistant (NA) serves as caregiver to the resident during the scheduled work period in assisted living. The NA provides resident-centered nursing care and daily living assistance to assigned resident under the supervision of a charge nurse. They assist with basic health care needs including daily living activities (bathing, toileting, grooming, dressing, vital sign monitoring, psychosocial support, and other personal care).
The NA may assist with transferring, repositioning, and walking using appropriate transfer techniques and equipment, and may provide range of motion and passive exercises. They complete tasks related to food preparation, dining, and encourage a positive dining experience. The NA may aid providers and nursing staff with procedures, collect non-invasive specimens, administer medications as delegated by a licensed nurse within state regulations, and document outcomes related to care, medication administration, behavior, activity, and diet.
The NA may provide housekeeping, laundry, wellness, recreational program assistance, and encourage resident participation. They follow infection prevention, PPE use, and 24‑hour nursing department care expectations, including rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays.
- High school graduate or GED preferred (not required).
- Minimum age of 16.
- Prior clinical or nursing assistant experience in assisted living preferred.
- Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification with the State Board of Nursing required.
- Satisfy yearly competency testing, maintain continuing education credits (minimum 12 hours annually), and keep all required certifications current.
- For applicable states, certification and registration with the Unlicensed Assistive Person (UAP) Registry.
- May require a Sanford Category II Driver certification, valid driver’s license, and medical fitness to drive as per the Sanford Driving Policy.
