The position serves as a working supervisor responsible for coordinating the daily management and supervision of the Public Health Nursing Office (PHNO). The incumbent plans and provides infection prevention and control protocols, operates immunization clinics, and delivers educational programs for department staff. They also identify evidence‑based improvements for clinical services through coordinated audits of all DCR facilities, implement chronic disease screening, testing, and treatment, and manage the 340B program under the Public Health Service Act.
The role requires flexible hours, including weekends and holidays, to accommodate facility schedules and detainee availability.
- Must possess legal authorization to work in the United States as a citizen, national, or permanent resident alien eligible for unrestricted employment.
- Must hold a valid Registered Nurse license in the State of Hawaii.
- Must have at least 2½ years of public‑health nursing experience as an RN, with a minimum of 1 year comparable to the Public Health Nurse IV level.
- Must possess a current CPR certification and be ready to provide emergency medical services at all times.
- Must not have engaged in sexual abuse in a correctional setting and must not have a conviction or administrative adjudication related to such conduct.
- Must obtain Certified Correctional Health Professional designation within six months of employment.
- Must obtain Infection Control Nurse certification within six months of employment.
- APIC training or equivalent is desirable.
- Certification in Infection Control (CIC) is preferred.
