Responsibilities

Under the general supervision of the Maintenance Engineer, this position is responsible for maintaining the traffic signal system on Kauai; repairs all existing traffic signal equipment; assembles, tests, adjusts, installs and modifies electronic equipment; inspects traffic signals; maintains traffic signal inventory; maintains highway lighting inventory and inspects highway lighting facilities.

Qualifications
  • General

    Experience:

    Two (2) years of work experience demonstrating knowledge of electricity and electronic principles, tools, instruments, and materials used in electrical and electronic work, electrical and electronic hazards and safety practices, and ability to use electronic and electrical test instruments to test and replace faulty modules; ability to read and interpret plans, blueprints, manufacturer’s specifications, and diagrams of electrical/electronic circuits; and prepare reports.
  • Specialized

    Experience:

    One (1) year of work experience demonstrating knowledge of electrical and electronic principles and theories as they apply to the repair of minicomputers and electronic components such as oscillators, multivibrators, pulses, memory and integrated circuits, and ability to read, understand, and prepare plans and schematic diagrams of applicable circuits and to test and repair or construct printed circuit assemblies.
  • Electrician’s License Requirement: A valid State of Hawaii Journey Worker Electrician’s License is required at the time of application.
  • Driver License Requirement: A valid driver license for the State of Hawaii is required at the time of appointment.
  • Lifting Requirement:
    Ability to lift and carry items of up to 50 lbs unassisted and 125 lbs assisted.
  • Substitutions Allowed:
    Relevant substitutions as described in the Minimum Qualification Requirements may apply.
