Position Summary:
This position provides instruction to students and performs a wide variety of tasks with curriculum planning, supervision, presenting and reinforcing learning concepts, and teaching children in a classroom setting.
Essential Functions:
* Teaches district-approved curriculum.
* Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.
* Plans a program of study, employing a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media that meet the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students.
* Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
* Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
* Assists the administration in implementing all policies and rules.
* Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
* Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and, establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects, and communicates these objectives to students.
* Assists in diagnosing the learning disabilities of students, with the assistance of district specialists.
* Evaluates the academic and social growth of students, keep appropriate records, and prepare progress reports.
* Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations.
* Gives help and is available to answer education-related questions to students and parents during the school day.
* Supervises students in classrooms, halls, cafeterias, schoolyards, and gymnasiums, or on field trips.
* Distributes tests and homework assignments, and collect them when they are completed.
* Enforces administration policies and rules governing students.
* Grades homework and tests, and computes and records results, using answer sheets or electronic marking devices.
* Perform all other duties reasonably related to the position and may be assigned by the Building Administrator(s) or Superintendent.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
* Highly visionary, with a belief that all children and adults are capable of greatness
* Deep understanding of equity, especially in an educational context
* Deeply committed to growing and accepting feedback with a demonstrated track record of receiving feedback well and implementing feedback effectively
* Must be familiar with the use of computers including but not limited to electronic mail, the Internet, word processing, and electronic spreadsheets (Microsoft Office).
* Establish and maintain effective and courteous working relationships with those contacted in the course of work (students, parents, and staff).
* Ability to understand and follow basic oral and written instructions.
* Ability to communicate to students, parents, and staff in an acceptable/courteous manner
Education:
* Bachelor's Degree (required)
* Teaching license for the particular position as required by the State.
Physical Requirements:
* Must be physically able to operate a motor vehicle
* Must be able to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to lift, carry, push, and pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body
* Light work usually requires walking or standing to a significant degree
Working Conditions and Environment:
* Work is routinely performed in a typical interior/classroom environment
* Very limited or no exposure to physical risk
