Instructor and Tutor Positions
We seek instructors and tutors to support the College's Adult Education program in Normal, Pontiac, and Lincoln, Illinois. These positions are essential to the College's vision of leading our community to lifelong learning and success by serving a diverse population of adult learners, including traditionally underserved students and those working to advance their educational goals.
Course offerings may include morning and evening classes, with current needs for:
- ESL instructors in Normal, IL
- HSE instructors in Normal, Pontiac, and Lincoln, IL
- Tutors (Lead and Peer) to support Adult Education classrooms across locations
Adult Basic Education/High School Equivalency (ABE/HSE) Preparation Instructors:
- Plan and deliver instruction to prepare students for the High School Equivalency exam
- Teach content areas including math, language arts, science, social studies, U.S. and Illinois Constitution, and career planning
Functional English as a Second Language (FESL) & Academic English Language Program (AELP) Instructors:
- Plan and deliver instruction in reading, writing, speaking, and listening
- Incorporate U.S. culture and career readiness into instruction
Tutors (Lead & Peer):
- Provide instructional support to individuals or small groups under the direction of the classroom instructor
- Reinforce lesson content to promote independent student learning
- Present targeted lessons aligned with student skill levels
- Assist in monitoring student progress and identifying barriers to success
- Help maintain a positive, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment
- Maintain confidentiality of student information
Instructors:
- Bachelor's degree
Lead Tutor:
- Bachelor's Degree
Peer Tutor:
- High school diploma or equivalent
All Positions:
- Ability to engage learners of varying skill levels and backgrounds
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and web-based tools
- Ability to work independently and maintain professionalism under pressure
- Ability to perform duties in a confidential manner
- Availability to be present on campus as needed
