Middle School Physical Education Teacher
Herscher Unit 2 Limestone Middle School – Kankakee, Illinois.
Position Type: Full‑Time / School Year
Salary: $41,333
Job DescriptionTo provide instruction that focuses on the social, emotional, intellectual and physical development of students, supervising them under direct or indirect control.
Responsibilities- Meet and instruct assigned classes at the designated locations and times.
- Plan a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests and abilities of the students.
- Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
- Prepare for classes assigned and show written evidence of preparation upon the immediate supervisor’s request.
- Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects, etc., communicating them to students.
- Employ a variety of instructional techniques and media, consistent with the physical limitations of the location and the needs and capacities of the students.
- Strive to implement by instruction and action the district’s philosophy of education, instructional goals, and objectives.
- Adhere to the published policies and procedures of the district.
- Assess students’ accomplishments regularly and provide progress reports as required.
- Work cooperatively with other school personnel to identify, diagnose, and remediate students with specialized needs.
- Communicate with parents regarding student progress as needed.
- Make all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
- Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulation.
- Assist the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct.
- Develop reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedures, maintaining order fairly and justly.
- Make reasonable provisions for being available to students and parents for education‑related purposes.
- Strive to maintain and improve professional competence.
- Attend staff meetings and serve on committees as provided by contract.
- Valid Illinois teaching license appropriate for the assigned grade level and/or subject area.
- Experience or preference for driver’s education and/or health education.
- Coaching opportunities possible.
