Self-Contained Special Education Teacher - 4th-6th Grade

Position Summary

We are seeking a dedicated, compassionate, and fully certified Special Education Teacher to lead our 4th–6th grade self-contained classroom. In this role, you will provide targeted, specialized instruction and a nurturing environment for a small group of learners with diverse needs. You will be supported by a robust and collaborative classroom team, including two full time classroom paraprofessionals and one dedicated 1:1 individual aide.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver specialized, differentiated instruction tailored to upper-elementary and middle school students (4th–6th grade).
  • Support students with diverse learning profiles and exceptionalities, including Intellectual Disabilities (), Other Health Impairment (OHI), Autism (AUT), Specific Learning Disabilities (SLD), and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI).
  • Direct and collaborate closely with assigned paraprofessionals and individual aides to ensure an inclusive, structured, and safe classroom atmosphere.
  • Monitor student progress, write and execute comprehensive Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), and conduct ongoing data-driven assessments.
  • Partner with parents, therapists, and district staff to support holistic student development.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Certification:
    Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with a Learning Behavior Specialist 1 (LBS1) endorsement, meeting all current Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) standards.
  • Experience working with elementary or middle school students with mild-to-moderate or significant developmental and learning disabilities preferred. Open to other experience within special education. New graduates are encouraged to apply.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills to direct classroom support staff effectively.

Schedule & Compensation

  • Hours:

    Monday through Friday, 7:15 AM to 2:55 PM.
  • Contract/Start:
    Full-time beginning August 17, 2026.
  • Salary & Benefits:
