We are seeking an API Inspector to support mechanical integrity compliance by performing inspections on fixed equipment and piping. This role requires hands-on execution, managing day-to-day inspections, supporting reliability and continuous improvement efforts, and maintaining detailed inspection records. The position involves coordinating with contractors and internal teams to ensure safety, compliance, and operational efficiency.
Position ResponsibilitiesInspection & Mechanical Integrity
- Perform nondestructive inspections (Visual VT, Ultrasonic UT, Liquid Penetrant PT, Magnetic Particle MT) on piping, atmospheric vessels, and pressure vessels
- Analyze inspection results, verify accuracy, determine minimum wall thickness, corrosion rates, and recommend re-inspection frequencies
- Provide technical input on inspection techniques based on damage mechanisms (corrosion, fatigue, stress cracking)
- Generate detailed inspection reports including equipment identifiers, inspector name, inspection date, type of inspection, results, and recommendations
- Maintain inspection records in SAP or other database systems
- Ensure compliance with GMP standards and regulatory requirements
- Develop technical repair plans and procedures for tanks, vessels, reactors, and piping systems
- Support failure analysis and problem-solving activities
- Provide input on welding procedures, quality control, and weld inspection techniques
- Oversee third-party inspectors performing advanced inspection techniques (B Scans, C Scans, Guided Wave, Digital Radiography)
- Support capital projects by inspecting offsite and onsite process equipment for compliance with engineering specifications
- Satisfy special inspection requests and witness acceptance testing as needed
- Assist in day-to-day operations for inspection teams, supporting 1–5 employees
- Travel and work flexible hours, including overtime during planned and unplanned shutdowns
- Maintain a safe work environment while handling corrosive or high-temperature chemicals
- High school diploma or equivalent;
Associate degree or experience in mechanical engineering/technology preferred - Minimum 3 years of experience in inspection and repair of stationary equipment and piping in chemical, oil & gas, or food & beverage industries
- Broad knowledge of pressure vessels, pressure safety devices, and preventive/predictive maintenance
- Ability to lift 60 lbs., climb platforms, and work in confined spaces and high temperatures
- American Petroleum Institute (API) certifications in 510, 570, 653 (or in progress)
- Certified Weld Inspector (CWI) certification is a plus
- Salary range of $90,000 – $100,000 with an hourly rate of $50/hour plus a 5% bonus
- Hands-on experience in mechanical integrity and equipment inspections
- Exposure to regulatory compliance, continuous improvement, and reliability initiatives
