Overview
Riverside Healthcare is seeking a highly motivated Telemetry Monitoring Technician to join our acute care hospital in Kankakee, Illinois. The Telemetry Monitoring Technician plays a crucial role in continuously observing cardiac rhythms and pulse oximetry of patients admitted to our telemetry and medical/surgical units. This individual will work closely with the healthcare team, providing real-time updates on patients cardiac status to ensure prompt intervention if abnormalities arise.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate excellent communication, attention to detail, and proficiency in using monitoring equipment. The candidate must demonstrate flexibility with assignments within their professional scope of practice and duties.
- Monitor, interpret, and document cardiac rhythms for assigned patients using telemetry equipment.
- Identify and report abnormal or significant changes in rhythm to the appropriate healthcare professionals promptly.
- Maintain continuous monitoring of patients with telemetry orders and communicate with the appropriate healthcare professionals if monitoring is interrupted.
- Record and update patients' telemetry readings in the hospital's electronic medical record (EMR) system.
- Maintain accurate and timely records of rhythm changes and all corresponding actions taken.
- Communicate effectively with healthcare professionals to report critical arrhythmias or other emergencies.
- Assist in coordinating care based on patient needs and monitoring results.
- Assist in maintaining and troubleshooting unit equipment, ensuring all monitors are functioning correctly.
- Review alarm settings and ensure proper functioning.
- Maintain annual education requirements for hospital-based certifications (e.g., DNV, CARF).
- Assist with clerical duties, such as answering phones, as needed.
- Proficiency in interpreting EKG/ECG readings.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify and escaliate abnormal cardiac rhythms.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills to work effectively in a fast‑paced hospital environment.
- Basic computer skills with the ability to use EMR systems.
- 1 year experience in a healthcare setting.
- Previous experience in telemetry monitoring preferred.
- High School graduate or equivalent.
- BLS certification through the American Heart Association.
- Completion of a recognized Telemetry or EKG monitoring course preferred.
- Certification as a Telemetry Technician or equivalent is highly desirable.
