Overview
Use your clinical skills to be a part of transforming the crisis care system. Thresholds’ Mobile Crisis Response Team (MCRT) provides services and supports to individuals experiencing a mental health crisis. As a Crisis Worker, you will respond to mental health crises in the Kankakee County community, serving as an alternative to or in conjunction with hospitalization or police response.
Responsibilities- Answer calls to the crisis hotline each shift and conduct a rapid yet robust safety assessment to determine the appropriate response.
- Connect the caller to an appropriate service or provider, or, if a face-to-face intervention is necessary, meet the caller with a Peer Engagement Specialist at a location in the community.
- Provide the least restrictive intervention possible while supporting the person in crisis (e.g., walking them through a panic attack or assisting with hospitalization).
- Engage in community interventions year-round in all weather conditions, including distribution of basic necessities to individuals in crisis (e.g., first aid items, water, warm clothing).
- Offer follow-up after responding to a crisis based on the client’s needs and document the services provided.
- Utilize downtime between calls for professional development through self-directed projects and community outreach efforts.

- Good writing skills
- Strong time management and organization
- To be at least 23 years old
- A valid driver’s license (daily access to a vehicle preferred)
- Flexibility to pick up 1st (7:00am-3:30pm), 2nd (3:00pm-11:30pm), or 3rd shifts (11:00pm-7:30am) as a substitute worker
- Willingness to pick up weekend or holiday shifts
- High school diploma or GED certificate and 5 years of supervised clinical experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, or related field
- Bachelor’s degree in an unrelated field and 2 years of supervised clinical experience
- Master’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, or related field
- Competitive pay — Salary Range: $26.50 - $30.00 per hour
- Based on education, experience, and licensure
