Mail Courier
The Mail Courier is responsible for the timely and accurate pickup, sorting, and delivery of mail, packages, and interdepartmental correspondence throughout the healthcare facility. This role ensures that all departments receive their mail and supplies in a safe, efficient, and professional manner, contributing to the smooth operations of the hospital's daily functions. The Mail Courier will also assist with light materials handling and support the Materials Management Department as needed.
Essential Duties
- Collect, sort, and deliver incoming and outgoing mail, packages, and interdepartmental correspondence to various departments and units within the healthcare facility.
- Ensure timely and accurate delivery of all items, following established routes and schedules.
- Sort and distribute incoming mail, including letters, packages, and supplies, according to departmental guidelines.
- Process outgoing mail, ensuring proper postage and adherence to postal regulations.
- Handle sensitive or confidential documents with care, maintaining patient and organizational confidentiality.
- Assist the Materials Management Department with the delivery and distribution of medical supplies, equipment, and other materials as needed.
- Help maintain stock levels of mailroom and office supplies and report any shortages to the supervisor.
- Interact professionally with hospital staff, patients, and visitors while performing mail delivery duties.
- Communicate effectively with departments to ensure they are aware of any issues or delays related to mail or package delivery.
- Address any concerns or complaints regarding mail service promptly and professionally.
- Follow all hospital policies and procedures related to mail handling, safety, and infection control.
- Ensure compliance with relevant postal regulations and guidelines.
- Report any suspicious packages or safety concerns immediately to the supervisor or appropriate personnel.
- Ensure all equipment is clean, well-organized, and in good working condition.
- Demonstrates flexibility with assignments within professional scope/duties/licensure.
Preferred Experience
- Previous experience in a mailroom, courier, or materials handling role is preferred, especially in a healthcare setting.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Familiarity with healthcare privacy regulations (e.g., HIPAA) is a plus.
Required Licensure/Education
- High school diploma or equivalent
