Internship Overview
Dow offers part‑time Data Engineering and Data Platform Engineering internship opportunities within its Enterprise Data & Analytics organization. This in‑person, part‑time (15–20 hours per week) role is located at the Dow Delivery Center at UIUC, Champaign, IL. Students within one to three years of graduation and currently enrolled at the University of Illinois Urbana‑Champaign pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a related technical field are encouraged to apply.
The internship lasts 12–14 weeks during the fall semester.
Data Engineer Intern Responsibilities
- Create data pipelines for projects in the Azure environment.
- Design, develop, test, and implement analytics, including the curation and ingestion of data from different source systems and driving end‑to‑end data flow for multiple solutions.
- Identify opportunities to innovate with digital capabilities to accelerate Dow’s digital transformation.
- Develop and implement Azure cloud‑based solutions for data and AI, ensuring they meet organization requirements and standards.
- Utilize tools such as Azure Data Factory, Azure SQL, Azure OpenAI, Azure Function Apps, Azure Logic Apps, and Azure Databricks.
- Maintain and monitor existing Azure infrastructure and workloads to ensure optimal performance, reliability, and scalability.
- Fix failures or enhancements using infrastructure‑as‑code tools such as ARM, Bicep, and Terraform within Azure Dev Ops.
- Ensure security of Azure applications and infrastructure by implementing best practices and security measures with role‑based access controls, and authentication using Service Principals and Managed Identities from Entra.
- Perform troubleshooting and root‑cause analysis for infrastructure issues to minimize downtime.
- Collaborate with developers and senior employees to implement continuous delivery systems and Agile methodologies.
- Document best practices, workflows, and solutions in the Dev Ops Wiki for knowledge transfer and maintenance.
- Currently enrolled at the University of Illinois Urbana‑Champaign.
- Working toward a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a related technical field.
- Within one to three years of graduation.
- Legally authorized to work in the United States (no visa sponsorship available).
- GPA of 3.0 or higher (preferred).
- Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.
- Familiarity with cloud‑based data lakehouse platforms such as Databricks or Snowflake.
- Familiarity with Python, Scala, and SQL programming languages, and scripting languages like Power Shell.
- Experience with structured, semi‑structured, or non‑structured databases, data ingestion, and data modeling.
- Multi‑application and cross‑platform design experience.
- Proficiency in data visualization tools such as Microsoft Power BI.
- Knowledge of Agile methodology (Scrum or Kanban).
- Knowledge of version control systems and code‑review practices.
This position does not offer relocation or housing assistance. Applicants must have access to public transportation or reliable personal transportation to commute to the Dow Delivery Center. Pay range for the Illinois state: $25.72–$34.28 per hour for Bachelor’s and $36.35–$38.41 per hour for Master’s.
