Position: TEAM LEADER- RMC 3RD ICU MAIN (FT Nights)

Overview

Riverside Healthcare is seeking a dedicated and experienced Registered Nurse Team Leader to join our Medical Surgical team in Kankakee, Illinois. This role supervises and coordinates patient care and leads a team of nurses in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate has leadership experience and clinical excellence and will collaborate with the Nurse Manager to supervise daily operations, ensure high standards of clinical practices, foster a collaborative work environment, and contribute to patient safety, well-being, and recovery.

The position requires flexibility with assignments within professional scope/duties/licensure.

Essential Duties
  • Clinical Leadership: Oversee daily unit activities and ensure adherence to clinical practices and patient care protocols. Coordinate care, admissions and discharges, assign tasks, and supervise staff on shift.
  • Patient Care: Assume patient assignments when needed, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care plans. Manage complex cases and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams.
  • Treatment Administration: Administer medications, treatments, and procedures as ordered. Monitor responses and update care plans as necessary.
  • Patient and Family

    Education:

    Provide culturally appropriate, age-appropriate education about medical conditions, treatment plans, and follow-up care. Address questions to support understanding and participation.
  • Infection Control: Adhere to infection control protocols and maintain a safe environment. Implement standard precautions and safety measures.
  • Team Coordination: Facilitate communication among nursing staff, physicians, and other health professionals. Promote teamwork and provide guidance to ensure cohesive care.
  • Staff Training and Development: Mentor and train staff; provide ongoing coaching and feedback for professional growth.
  • Quality Improvement: Partner with the Nurse Manager to monitor compliance with regulations and standards. Engage in quality improvement, Evidence Based Practice, and clinical audits where applicable; address concerns promptly.
  • Emergency Response: Lead clinical response during emergencies and coordinate with other providers.
  • Administrative Duties: Assist with staffing, scheduling, timekeeping, interviews, expenses, and other tasks to support unit operations.
  • Patient

    Experience:

    Conduct patient rounds; engage with patients and families to promote comfort, trust, and understanding. Address concerns with empathy and professionalism.
  • Employee

    Contribute to a positive, collaborative work environment and promote mutual respect and teamwork.
  • Education Requirements: Maintain annual education requirements for hospital-based certifications (e.g., DNV, CARF, or others).
Qualifications
  • Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience in an acute care setting preferred.
  • Experience caring for patient populations across the lifespan is highly desirable.
  • Basic ECG rhythm interpretation skills preferred.
Licensure and Training
  • Graduate of an approved school of nursing.
  • Current RN license in Illinois.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification within 1 year of hire.
  • New Graduate RNs starting on or after 1/1/25 must earn a BSN within 3 years of start date.
Education Preferences
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
  • Professional certification in nursing specialty preferred.
