Overview
Riverside Healthcare is seeking a skilled and compassionate OB/GYN Registered Nurse (RN) to provide high‑quality care to women in our obstetrics and gynecology department in Kankakee, Illinois. The OB/GYN RN will be responsible for caring for women during pregnancy, the postpartum period, and for gynecological issues. In this role you will work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team of physicians, nurse practitioners, and other healthcare professionals to ensure positive patient outcomes and support women's health needs across various stages of life.
This position requires flexibility with assignments within professional scope, duties, and licensure.
- Provide patient education and support during pregnancy, including routine assessments and educating patients on prenatal health practices.
- Provide direct nursing care to women after labor and childbirth, ensuring maternal and fetal well‑being through careful monitoring and appropriate interventions.
- Assist physicians after labor, delivery (vaginal and cesarean sections), and any emergent situations that may arise.
- Administer pain management, including other medications as needed after labor and delivery.
- Provide postpartum nursing care to mothers, including monitoring for complications such as postpartum hemorrhage and providing education on breastfeeding, newborn care, and postpartum recovery.
- Educate patients and their families on newborn care, postpartum self‑care, and family planning.
- Assist with the care of women undergoing gynecological procedures and surgeries, including pre‑operative and post‑operative care.
- Support patients dealing with a range of gynecological conditions, including abnormal bleeding, endometriosis, and reproductive health concerns.
- Educate and counsel patients on reproductive health, contraceptive options, and preventive care.
- Provide support and guidance during emotionally challenging situations, such as pregnancy loss or complications.
- Participate in Code OB, Code Blue, or other emergency protocols as needed.
- Team member will maintain annual education requirements.
- Participate in department meetings, continuing education sessions, and professional development opportunities.
- Assist with unit management tasks, including maintaining cleanliness, restocking supplies, and preparing rooms for procedures.
- Act as a mentor or preceptor to new nurses or nursing students.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and hospital outreach programs.
- Minimum of one year of experience as an RN in Obstetrics, Labor and Delivery, or Gynecology preferred.
- Experience in acute care or high‑risk OB units is a plus.
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Illinois.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification required (or willingness to obtain within 6 months).
- New Graduate RNs starting on or after 1/1/25 must earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) within 3 years of start date.
- BSN preferred.
- Professional nursing certification in area of specialty preferred.
