Overview
Riverside Healthcare in Kankakee, Illinois, is seeking a skilled and compassionate Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse (RN) to join our acute care team. The ideal candidate will provide exceptional patient care to expectant mothers and their newborns in a fast-paced and supportive environment. As a Labor and Delivery RN, you will work closely with obstetricians, pediatricians, and other healthcare professionals to ensure safe and positive childbirth experiences, managing both routine deliveries and emergency situations with competence and empathy.
Additionally, this position requires flexibility with assignments within professional scope/duties/licensure.
- Provide comprehensive nursing care to women before, during, and after labor, including monitoring maternal and fetal vital signs, administering medications, and assisting with epidurals.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary team to develop and implement individualized care plans for patients.
- Provide emotional support and education to patients and their families throughout the labor process.
- Monitor labor progression using fetal monitoring devices, and respond to any abnormalities or emergencies as necessary.
- Assist in all aspects of labor, including preparing patients for delivery, guiding mothers through labor, and coaching during pushing.
- Assist physicians with vaginal deliveries and Cesarean sections (C-sections), including prepping the delivery room and ensuring sterile environments.
- Provide immediate newborn care, including resuscitation and APGAR scoring, as needed.
- Provide postpartum care to mothers and newborns, including administering medications, monitoring recovery, and facilitating skin-to-skin contact and breastfeeding support.
- Educate patients and families about postpartum care, newborn care, and any discharge instructions.
- Respond to obstetric emergencies such as preeclampsia, hemorrhage, and fetal distress with quick thinking and effective interventions.
- Participate in Code OB, Code Blue, or other emergency protocols as necessary.
- Team member will maintain annual education requirements
