Position: SECURITY OFFICER (FT Nights)

Overview

The Hospital/Healthcare Security Officer is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of patients, staff, visitors, and property within the healthcare facility. This role involves monitoring and patrolling the premises, responding to security incidents, and enforcing hospital policies and procedures. The Security Officer plays a crucial role in maintaining a safe and secure environment, while providing a reassuring presence to all who enter the facility.

Duties
  • Conduct regular patrols of the facility, including patient areas, administrative offices, parking lots, and entrances, to deter and detect suspicious activity.
  • Respond promptly to security incidents, alarms, and emergencies, including medical emergencies, disturbances, and potential threats. Take appropriate action to resolve situations and ensure the safety of all individuals.
  • Utilize de‑escalation techniques and crisis intervention skills to manage and diffuse situations involving agitated, disruptive, or potentially violent individuals. Work to resolve conflicts peacefully and prevent escalation.
  • Monitor and control access to restricted areas, ensuring that only authorized personnel and visitors enter specific zones. Issue visitor passes and verify credentials as needed.
  • Operate and monitor surveillance equipment, including security cameras and alarm systems, to detect and respond to security breaches or unusual activity.
  • Document security incidents, observations, and activities in detailed and accurate reports. Provide written and verbal reports to management as needed.
  • Assist with the implementation of emergency procedures, including evacuation plans and response protocols, during incidents such as fires, natural disasters, or security threats.
  • Provide excellent customer service by assisting patients, visitors, and staff with directions, information, and any security‑related concerns or inquiries.
  • Enforce hospital policies and procedures related to security, safety, and conduct. Ensure that all actions are in compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Work collaboratively with hospital staff, law enforcement, and emergency response teams to address security issues and enhance overall safety.
  • Provide 24‑hour video surveillance by the use of closed‑circuit television in the prevention of crime.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
  • Demonstrates flexibility with assignments within professional scope/duties/licensure.
  • The shifts for this position will be 12 hours from 6‑6:30.
Preferred Experience
  • Previous experience in security, law enforcement or a related field, preferably in a healthcare or institutional setting.
  • Strong understanding of security and safety protocols, emergency response procedures, and access control systems.
  • Demonstrated experience and skill in de‑escalation techniques and crisis intervention.
  • Excellent observational and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to handle stressful situations calmly and effectively.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact professionally with patients, visitors, and staff.
  • Proficiency in using security equipment, including surveillance systems and alarm panels.
  • Physical ability to stand, walk, and patrol for extended periods, and respond to emergencies as needed.
Required Licensure / Education
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
Preferred Education
  • Additional training or certification in security, de‑escalation, or law enforcement is preferred.
