Job Description
Locate Technicians are responsible for accurately locating underground facilities including telephone communication lines, electric power lines, cable television lines, gas lines, fiber optic lines, water lines, and sewer lines. This position is a key component to ensuring compliance with client and state requirements. Service duties include observing, locating, marking, and documenting underground and exposed utility locations using multiple methods. The locating technician will be dispatched to locate and verify utility locations for customers and may work independently or in a team environment under a supervisor.

- Locate underground facilities by using a transmitter and hooking up to a buried facility, pedestal, etc.
- Work and walk over all types of terrain in and around construction zones and residential, commercial, industrial, and rural areas, in all types of weather conditions.
- Interpret job order tickets, blueprints, and maps to efficiently route and perform duties.
- Perform locates and emergency/on‑call locates during regular, overtime, and holiday hours as necessary to meet customer needs.
- Complete work in a timely, professional and efficient manner while communicating and interacting with customers, co‑employees, and third parties.
- Communicate with management, contractors, and utility customers to ensure a damage‑free environment.
- Apply knowledge of technology and tools.
- Work with others in a supervised team environment.
- Perform duties while ensuring safety conditions and use of personal protective equipment.
- High School Diploma or equivalency (GED).
- State‑issued driver’s license.
- Ability to problem‑solve.
- Ability to read, interpret, and decipher multiple types of prints.
- Experience with vacuum truck (A+ rating).
- Ability to lift over 50 lbs.
- Ability to walk/stand for multiple hours a day.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Pass a background screening with no violations within the last 5 years.
- Pass a DOT drug test.
