Distribution Technician

Aqua, an Essential Utilities company, is seeking a Distribution Technician to work under the direction of the Supervisor. The position is a Union role based out of the Kankakee, IL office with an hourly rate of $28.92.

• Operate and perform routine maintenance on equipment and vehicles, including trucks, pumps, pavement and rock breakers, tampers, compressors, tapping and rodding machines, boring and pushing equipment.
• Install, maintain, and repair pipe and service lines as well as related valves, fittings, and appurtenances.
• Install meters and meter housings, and conduct repair and maintenance on meter housings as required.
• Perform grounds keeping over mains, services, and other areas.
• Use various tools, instruments, and equipment (e.g., backhoe) associated with the work.
• Make measurements and surveys as required for accurate record keeping.
• Perform and record inspections and tests of the system and appurtenances.
• Load and unload various equipment and supplies at work sites or storage areas.
• Conduct all duties in a safe manner following OSHA, IDOL, USDOT, company and applicable safety regulations.
• Be available for reasonable overtime and emergency call‑out duty to provide service to the public.
• Perform any other duties assigned to support customers and the organization’s goals.

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Legible handwriting, basic mathematical and communication skills.
• Trustworthy, conscientious, and respectful of time and equipment, with awareness of responsibility to safeguard water supplies and prevent pollution.
• Good interpersonal skills for cooperation and communication with employees and the public.
• Ability to read, understand, and accurately follow operating instructions from supervisors.
• Neat, reliable, resourceful, with a retentive memory; able to think and act promptly and discern priority of duties; capable of using radio and telephone; wear proper clothing as required; have capacity and desire for advancement.
• Team player able to work effectively in a multi‑tasking environment.

• Valid U.S. driver’s license.
• Class A CDL license.
• Illinois E.P.A. Class “D” Water Operators Certification preferred upon hire; must be obtained within one year of hire for new employees or within six months of transfer for current employees to remain in employment.
• Technical, academic, and physical ability, including lifting 50 lbs., to perform the duties of this classification.
• Travel to work sites of Essential Utilities and/or other constituents as applicable.
• Residence within 45 minutes of the office.

This is a Union position based out of the Kankakee, IL office. Rate of pay is $28.92 per hour.
