Position: Accounting Assistant 1
Description

We are looking for a detail-oriented Accounts Receivable Specialist to support the deductions function in Kansas City, Kansas. This Long-term Contract position will focus on researching and resolving short-paid invoices while partnering with customers, brokers, and internal teams to clear deductions accurately and on schedule. The ideal candidate brings a strong service mindset, sound judgment, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced accounting environment.

Responsibilities:

- Oversee a portfolio of invoice deductions and follow each item through resolution with accuracy and timeliness.

- Communicate with customers and brokers to gather support, clarify discrepancies, and settle short-payment issues.

- Partner with Sales, Trade Marketing, Customer Service, and other internal groups to address outstanding receivable balances.

- Review account activity to identify the cause of open deductions and apply appropriate corrective actions.

- Maintain organized records, reporting, and documentation related to deduction research and account status.

- Use spreadsheets and reporting tools to analyze trends, track workload, and support decision-making.

- Recommend process enhancements that improve efficiency, strengthen controls, and reduce recurring issues.

- Deliver responsive internal and external service while meeting deadlines and managing competing priorities.

Requirements - At least 2 years of experience in Accounts Receivable, deductions, customer service, accounting, or a related area.

- Bachelor's degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, or a similar discipline is preferred.

- Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to work effectively across teams and with external contacts.

- Proven organizational skills, close attention to detail, and the ability to manage several tasks at once.

- Comfortable working with urgency, meeting deadlines, and taking ownership of assigned responsibilities.

- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; experience with pivot tables and reporting is an advantage.

- Demonstrated problem-solving ability with a proactive approach to identifying issues and driving resolution.

- Experience with SAP or comparable enterprise systems is a plus.
