Piping Construction Manager

Kansas City, Kansas | Full-Time | On-Site

Position Summary

The Piping Construction Manager is responsible for leading industrial construction projects from preconstruction planning, constructability review, estimating support, and execution strategy through field execution, commissioning support, turnover, and closeout. This position requires a proven construction leader with strong field experience, commercial awareness, and the ability to manage safety, quality, schedule, cost, labor productivity, subcontractors, contract administration, and client expectations across multiple concurrent projects or complex site scopes.

This role is expected to operate with a high degree of ownership, provide clear direction to project and field teams, identify and mitigate risk before it impacts performance, and support long-term client relationships through disciplined execution and professional communication.

Key Responsibilities

Project Planning & Execution

  • Lead construction execution planning for assigned industrial projects, including scope definition, constructability review, execution strategy, site logistics, work packaging, manpower planning, milestone schedule development, and resource-loaded look-ahead planning.
  • Support preconstruction, proposal development, and client planning efforts by contributing conceptual estimates, schedules, execution narratives, staffing plans, and constructability input.
  • Manage multiple construction work fronts or projects simultaneously, ensuring alignment with approved design, specifications, budget targets, schedule commitments, and client requirements.
  • Review engineering drawings, specifications, procurement status, subcontractor scopes, and construction packages for completeness, constructability, sequencing, permitting, inspection readiness, and execution constraints.
  • Lead planning and coordination for equipment installations, piping systems, utility tie-ins, process and packaging line installations, facility upgrades, maintenance outages, shutdowns, and turnaround work.
  • Coordinate closely with Engineering, Procurement, Operations, Safety, Quality, field supervision, subcontractors, vendors, inspectors, authorities having jurisdiction, and client representatives to remove constraints and support safe, productive execution.
  • Establish project controls, governance routines, reporting cadence, and communication processes that keep stakeholders aligned on priorities, risks, schedule performance, required decisions, and recovery plans.
  • Proactively identify construction risks, field constraints, schedule threats, labor availability concerns, and commercial exposure; develop mitigation plans and lead corrective action through resolution.
Safety & Quality Leadership
  • Provide visible safety leadership and ensure compliance with Bilfinger, client, OSHA, site-specific, and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead or support jobsite safety planning, hazard assessments, pre-task planning, JSAs, permit coordination, lift plans, and high-risk work reviews.
