Position Summary, Requirements, and Qualifications

Overview

The Department of English at Northern Illinois University ( NIU ) is creating a pool posting for anticipated openings as it seeks full-time or part-time instructors to teach face-to-face classes in the first-year composition program.

This position has occasional opportunities to teach upper‑level classes as well—depending on candidates’ specializations. The appointment is for up to one year subject to program needs but is renewable.

Instructors are on continuing contracts after five (5) years of positive programmatic reviews and continued program need. NIU draws its predominately first‑generation students and transfers from the cities of Chicago and Rockford, their suburbs, and the rural areas of the region.
