Title: Coach – Assistant Coach (High School Softball)
Location: F.L. Schlagle High School
The Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools (KCKPS) is a nationally recognized urban school district that serves approximately 22,000 students and includes more than 60 languages spoken in students’ homes. KCKPS employs roughly 4,000 staff, including over 1,800 teachers.
Job Goal: The assistant coach reports directly to the head coach of the softball program, provides loyalty to the program, and carries out all assignments given by the head coach.
Essential Functions- Assist the head coach as directed.
- Organize and direct coaching staff.
- Collect physical examination forms.
- Collect insurance release forms.
- Report injuries to the school nurse.
- Maintain inventory and submit equipment needs list.
- Check out and collect equipment.
- Keep accurate records of lost or stolen equipment.
- Provide a roster of players.
- Assist the Athletic Director with end‑of‑season awards and ceremony planning.
- Ensure proper team conduct on trips and during contests.
- Know all rules pertaining to the sport.
- Treat injuries or attend to athletes.
- Clean and maintain equipment and uniforms.
- Organize practice sessions.
- Certified teacher or qualified for Rule 10 approval through the Kansas State School Activities Association.
Maintains communication with school personnel and parents/guardians to enhance cooperative action that meets the educational needs of students. Utilizes existing technology effectively and performs other related work as required.
Reasoning AbilityAbility to solve practical problems, interpret instructions, and handle varied situations with limited standardization.
Language SkillsRead, analyze, and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, and regulations; write reports, curriculum, correspondence, and protocols; present information and respond to questions from administrators, staff, parents, students, and the public.
Physical DemandsRegularly sit, walk, stand, and talk or hear. Occasionally lift or move up to 50 lb, push items of similar weight, and may visit a child’s home. Requires good vision (close, distance, depth perception).
Work EnvironmentAmbient noise is usually loud, but within acceptable standards. Responsible for students’ safety, work output, and well‑being.
