Job DescriptionThe Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools (KCKPS) serves approximately 22,000 students in a diverse community. As a Middle School Science Teacher, you will be responsible for fostering student understanding of scientific concepts and preparing them for college and career readiness.
Responsibilities- Implement 21st Century Skills into curriculum.
- Conduct full duty day in assigned location.
- Assess student abilities relative to educational goals and Head Start Performance Standards.
- Plan and employ a variety of instructional strategies and activities suitable for the facility and students.
- Create a conducive learning environment and manage classroom behavior, including participation in site-wide behavior management.
- Communicate instructional expectations, student progress, and challenges to students and parents verbally and in writing.
- Maintain accurate assessment and evaluation documentation for institutional and individual reporting.
- Collaborate with program personnel on instructional goals and curriculum effectiveness.
- Attend staff meetings, in-service, and professional development activities.
- Assist in documentation of student progress and submit appropriate reports.
- Ensure classroom environment is attractive, healthful, safe, and conducive to learning.
- Participate in extracurricular activities as requested by the principal.
- Attend IEP meetings for IDEA students.
- Apply knowledge of content, curriculum, methods, materials, and equipment relevant to the specialty area.
- Use knowledge of student growth and development appropriate to the grade level.
- Study current research and theory in instructional practice.
- Plan and implement lessons based on curriculum objectives and student needs.
- Build effective relationships with students, parents, peers, and serve as a family advocate within the district-wide Family Advocate System.
- Demonstrate strong oral and written communication skills.
- Exhibit excellent human relations skills.
- Maintain physical and emotional aptitude to perform required tasks.
- Monitor student work and behavior throughout the classroom.
- Show patience, caring, and commitment to student success.
- Take attendance and maintain attendance registers per Board policy.
- Comply with Section 504 and IDEA amendments.
- Maintain courteous and professional demeanor at all times.
- Keep a neat and professional appearance.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Meets Kansas City, Kansas Board of Education and Kansas State Department of Education employment qualifications.
- Kansas teaching certificate in area of instructional responsibility.
186 school days. Full-time, exempt.
