Summary

Kansas City Kansas Community College (KCKCC) is currently searching for a full-time faculty member to provide high-quality, learner-centered instruction for students enrolled in English for Speakers of Other Languages-related coursework at any KCKCC location while supporting the institution’s mission, vision, and strategic plan.

Position Description
  • Teach ESOL courses with clear and measurable objectives.
  • Maintain a student-oriented approach to education, including recruitment, advising, etc.
  • Create and revise curriculum and assessments to enhance program effectiveness.
  • Demonstrate ongoing professional development while sustaining desirable classroom results.
  • Create opportunities for acceleration through the program by demonstrating proficiency.
  • Prepare course syllabi addressing targeted student abilities, specific competencies, textbook requirements, grading/assessment methodology, course scheduling, and other items as required.
  • Provide regular, timely reports to students of academic performance, including current grades in course(s) taught.
  • Successfully complete important assessment work.
  • Utilize student-centered teaching strategies.
  • Assist with intake and placement of new students.
  • Assist with enrollment of new and returning students.
  • Assist with advising new and returning students.
  • Demonstrate commitment to the program, division, and total institution by timely attendance and submission of required grade, attendance, or other miscellaneous reports to the administration.
  • Advise the Student Organization of Latinos (SOL).
  • Consult with students, faculty, administrators, and staff in support of program, division, and college-wide initiatives.
  • Other related duties as assigned by the appropriate administrator.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
  • College-level ESOL teaching experience.
  • Demonstrated participation in interdisciplinary teaching and learning initiatives.
  • Knowledge of curriculum development and trends, especially regarding expedited assimilation.
  • Ability to perform well in an urban community college serving a diverse population.
  • Documented record of establishing and maintaining appropriate professional relationships.
  • Knowledge of classroom technology best practices as related to language acquisition.
Minimum Qualifications
  • A Master's or higher degree in TESOL, Linguistics, or Applied Linguistics.
  • Experience teaching and relating to individuals from a wide range of academic, socioeconomic, and cultural backgrounds.
Preferred Qualifications
  • PhD in TESOL, Linguistics, or Applied Linguistics.
  • Teaching experience in an open enrollment, urban community college.
  • Experience with a Learning Management System such as Blackboard.
  • Experience in learner-centered pedagogy.
  • Preference may be given to persons fluent in a second language, especially Spanish.

In performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, talk, hear, walk, and sit. Occasionally, the employee may need to push or lift items. Work Schedule

Must be able to work a variable schedule/hour to meet operational needs. May require evening and weekend hours.
