The job of Paraprofessional 1 is done for the purpose/s of providing support to the instructional program within assigned classroom with specific responsibility for assisting the Lead Teacher in the supervision, care and instruction of special needs students in the regular classroom or in a self-contained classroom; assisting in implementing plans for instruction; monitoring student behavior during non-classroom time; and providing information to appropriate school personnel.
Essential functions include adapting classroom activities, administering tests, assisting medically fragile or physically disabled students, communicating with staff and parents, implementing behavioral plans, maintaining instructional materials, monitoring students, providing instruction, attending meetings, administering first aid, and performing other related duties.
Qualifications include a high school diploma or GED certificate and either 48 hours at an institution of higher education or an associate's (or higher) degree. Passing a State approved assessment is also required. Job related experience is preferred.
The position requires communication/organization skills, reasoning ability, language skills, physical demands, and other skills and abilities including the ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to the instructional program, establish effective working relationships, and speak clear and concisely in written or oral communication.
Terms of employment are 186 days and the salary is Level 7. The classified salary schedule is available at . The FLSA status is hourly, non-exempt, and the position reports to the Principal. Performance will be evaluated in accordance with Board of Education policy.
