Position: Educational Sign Language Interpreter - Kansas City, KS

Make a meaningful impact by facilitating communication and learning for students who are deaf, hard of hearing, or have limited/no verbal skills. This in-person or hybrid contract opportunity as a Sign Language Interpreter offers the chance to empower students in specialized educational programs. Your expertise will be essential in our growing initiatives supporting accessible education, including SAILS and STEPs programs dedicated to students with unique communication needs.

Key

Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated proficiency as a Sign Language Interpreter (SLI) for educational settings
  • Experience supporting students in elementary, middle, or high school environments preferred
  • Skilled in American Sign Language (ASL) and capable of interpreting in a variety of classroom subjects
  • Ability to obtain or maintain appropriate SLI credentials for educational interpreting
  • Understanding of communication methods for non-verbal or limited-verbal students is a strong asset
  • Strong commitment to professionalism, confidentiality, and collaboration with educational teams
  • Minimum 0-3 years of relevant experience required; increased responsibilities and compensation considered with 4+ years of interpreting experience
Role Highlights:
  • Interpret spoken language into ASL and vice versa for students and staff on site at least four days per week
  • Provide communication access and support during classroom instruction, activities, and special events
  • Collaborate with teachers, educational diagnosticians, and support staff to ensure students’ needs are met
  • Assist in augmentative and alternative communication measures for students with no/limited verbal skills
  • Support students IEPs and contribute to evaluation processes
