Annual Pay Ranges
I&C Engineer I (Entry‑Level): $86,995 - $108,744
I&C Engineer II (Mid‑Level): $103,794 - $129,742
Senior I&C Engineer: $124,342 - $155,428
Duties and Responsibilities- Support the design, implementation, and documentation of control system modifications, HMI displays, databases, and network communications.
- Troubleshoot PLCs, HMIs, SCADA systems, and industrial electrical equipment.
- Assist with process modifications, report development, and system improvements.
- Maintain accurate plant control system documentation, including wiring diagrams and electrical drawings.
- Collaborate with plant technicians, operations staff, and vendors to resolve technical issues.
- Participate in on‑call rotation as required to support plant operations.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Assists with control system modifications under supervision.
- Supports troubleshooting activities and learns plant systems and standards.
- Maintains basic records and drawings.
- Learns vendor specifications and plant processes.
- Works under close supervision with decisions reviewed by senior staff.
- Independently designs and implements control applications.
- Leads troubleshooting of PLC/HMI systems and supports SCADA issues.
- Coordinates with vendors and supports budget preparation for small projects.
- Provides technical guidance to junior staff.
- Makes decisions that impact projects and plant operations.
- Leads design, documentation, and implementation of complex control applications.
- Manages SCADA and OT networks, including servers, switches, and firewalls.
- Collaborates with plant technicians on complex industrial electrical systems.
- Prepares capital and O&M budgets, including equipment specifications and cost estimates.
- Develops and maintains strong vendor and stakeholder relationships.
- Exercises high autonomy with decisions impacting plant reliability and long‑term operations.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation & Controls Engineering, or related discipline, from an ABET accredited institution.
- PE license preferred for Senior level.
- Level I: 0–3 years of experience in controls engineering, plant operations, or related internships.
- Level II: 4–7 years of experience in PLC/HMI programming, troubleshooting, controls development, and electric industry operations.
- Senior: 7+ years in programming, configuration, troubleshooting, controls development, and report analysis; 5+ years with HMI systems preferred.
- Knowledge of PLCs, HMIs, SCADA systems, and industrial networking.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and process flow diagrams.
- Experience with database management and report development tools.
- Familiarity with MCCs, VFDs, switch gear, power meters, and protective relays.
- Understanding of cybersecurity practices and quality assurance procedures.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to collaborate across departments and with external partners.
- Commitment to safety, reliability, and continuous improvement.
