The Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools (KCKPS) is a nationally recognized urban school district that serves approximately 22,000 students and 60+ languages are spoken in the homes of our students. It includes 28 elementary schools, 7 middle schools, and 5 college and career academies/high schools, making it the fifth largest district in Kansas.
JOB GOAL: To maintain the financial books of the school accounts and the budget accounts, providing a learning environment with the necessary tools (supplies, equipment, etc.) for students to grow and learn through their high school years.
Responsibilities- Daily bank deposits – receipt and deposit all monies received in the school that day in accordance with all District policies and guidelines, state statutes and sound financial practices.
- Daily posting of activity to approximately 75 accounts, including maintaining financial records of the student activity funds in manner prescribed by the district and in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.
- Process payments and prepare checks for all student activity disbursements in accordance with all District policies and guidelines, state statutes and guidelines and sound financial practices.
- Maintain the budget account balances to process supply, equipment, and miscellaneous items for requisitions/purchase orders through the Business PLUS system. Reconcile all accounts on a monthly basis and provide monthly report of account balances to principal and business office.
- Maintain the student debt list.
- Reconcile bank statement against SILK receipting and AA Web postings.
- Prepare sales tax and expense reports. Pay sales taxes and expenses and forward to Finance Manager at Central Office.
- Work closely with athletic director and submit all referee payments on a weekly basis.
- Prepare for principal review and signature monthly financial report and forward to Finance Manager at Central Office by the 20th of each month.
- Provide monthly statement of activity in each account to the club sponsor. Meet with sponsor as needed to assure such report is reconciled to their records. Maintain file of monthly reports with sponsor approving signature.
- Acts as liaison between Director of Risk and Club Sponsor for all student activity related fundraisers. Submits all fundraiser applications to Risk Department for approval.
- Attends Treasurer meetings as directed by Central Office and School Administration.
- Prepare cash boxes for student activities; reconcile gate receipts, and all sources of all funds, for all school sponsored activities.
- Liaison between the soft drink distributor & students for refunds on the machines.
- Relieve receptionists once a week.
- Other duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in accounting or bookkeeping.
- Knowledge of accounting and bank reconciliation.
- Knowledge of AA Web Financial System is a plus.
- Strong communication skills.
Maintains prompt communication with school personnel, and parents/guardians to enhance cooperative action which will meet the educational needs of students.
Utilizes existing technology effectively in the performance of duties.
Performs other related work as required.
Reasoning AbilityExcellent problem solving skills. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Language SkillsAbility to read and analyze and interpret general professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, general curriculum and learning theories, correspondence, and protocols. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of administrators, staff, parents, students, and the general public.
