The Application Support Technician provides first-line technical support, monitoring, and maintenance for BPU's enterprise applications, including the organization’s ERP platform. This role assists with daily system operations, resolves user‑reported issues, and ensures application stability by identifying problems, documenting solutions, and escalating complex cases to senior analysts or technical teams. The technician supports core ERP modules such as Human Resources Management (HRMS), Financials, Supply Chain, and Time & Absence Management, as well as related technologies for integrations and data analytics.

This position plays a key role in delivering responsive customer service to business stakeholders and supporting IT’s broader application roadmap.

• Monitor ERP performance and scheduled processes to identify issues, assist with routine maintenance, and support senior staff during upgrades, patches, and data validation activities.
• Provide Tier 1–2 support by troubleshooting ERP/HCM issues, assisting end users, documenting resolutions, and escalating complex problems appropriately.
• Assist with basic system analysis tasks by gathering information, reproducing issues, validating data, and supporting analysts in documenting requirements or process gaps.
• Use simple scripts or tools to support troubleshooting, data checks, and routine operational tasks under the guidance of technical team members.
• Support testing activities by executing test cases, validating fixes, documenting results, and reporting defects during unit, integration, and UAT cycles.
• Maintain documentation and assist with training materials by updating knowledge articles, SOPs, and user guides, and providing basic user training on system navigation and best practices.
• Perform related support tasks as assigned to ensure stable and reliable ERP operations.

• Associate degree, technical certificate, or equivalent coursework in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field;
  Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Familiarity with SQL and at least one programming or scripting language (Java, C#, Python, etc.) for reading logs, understanding data flows, and supporting troubleshooting.
• Ability to diagnose issues, identify patterns, and follow structured troubleshooting steps.
• Able to clearly explain issues, document findings, and support business stakeholders effectively.
• Comfortable managing assigned tasks while partnering with analysts, developers, and business users.
• Ensures accuracy when documenting issues, updating tickets, and following procedures.
• Familiarity with ERP modules (HR, Financials, Supply Chain, Time & Absence) or related business workflows.
• Awareness of how applications exchange data (APIs, file transfers, scheduled jobs).
• Experience with Agile, Waterfall, or common project tools is helpful.

All BPU employees, at the start of employment, must establish and maintain a legal primary residence within the boundaries of the Unified Government of Wyandotte County/Kansas City, KS, for a period of 12 months.
