Supervise Material Handlers in support of shipping, receiving, and production plant-wide. Assist production and the Material Planners in GMSPO on‑time shipments. Assist the Materials Manager in meeting the planned budget. Responsible for managing appropriately to support production requirements and meet budgeted overtime. Assumes special assignments such as inventory control, cost savings, layout improvement for material flow, etc. Ensure windows of trucks are maintained and shipments are met per customer requirements.
Maintain Material Handler employee reviews and take appropriate disciplinary action when required. Assist in all facility special project assignments. Ensure smooth transition between shifts. Coordinate with production to meet daily shipment schedules. Ensure plant housekeeping is neat and organized with Shift Supervisors. Ensure all paperwork for shipping (Bills of Lading, Manual Shippers, etc.) is completed. Oversee truck drivers and schedules appropriately.
Maintain QS‑9000/TS16949 requirements. Develop appropriate packaging methods. Coordinate appropriate material rack storage. Communicate/coordinate with customers on matters such as obsolescence claims. Document all activities. Adhere to emergency evacuation guidelines for employee safety. Any additional responsibilities deemed necessary by management.
- Advise the Department Manager of any significant risk to program, product assurance, facility, employee safety, or customer satisfaction.
- Initiate actions to prevent nonconformance.
- Identify and record problems in product, process, or system.
- Recommend solutions and verify implementation.
- Control nonconforming products until corrected.
- High School Diploma or equivalent. 2‑year college degree preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Traffic and logistics background.
- Strong computer skills (preferred Trans4M).
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of GM’s ISP/JIT systems.
- Strong attention to detail and follow‑through.
- 3‑5 years applied supervisory experience in a high‑volume manufacturing environment, preferably in automotive suppliers.
