The Piper Creek Elementary has an opening for a School Nurse for the school year. All interested and qualified candidates are asked to apply as soon as possible. The position is open until filled.
Job SummaryThe School Nurse supports student success by promoting health and wellness, managing medical needs, and creating a safe and healthy school environment. This role is responsible for providing direct health care, maintaining health records, and collaborating with school staff and families to address the physical and emotional well‑being of students.
Responsibilities Direct Health Services- Provide first aid and care for students with acute or chronic conditions.
- Administer prescribed medications and monitor students with special medical needs.
- Respond to medical emergencies and develop action plans for individual students.
- Maintain accurate and confidential student health records.
- Monitor immunization compliance and report as required by state regulations.
- Document health‑related incidents and services provided.
- Conduct vision, hearing, and other routine health screenings.
- Monitor and manage contagious illness protocols.
- Promote healthy habits, hygiene practices, and overall wellness.
- Provide health education to students, staff, and families as needed.
- Serve as a resource for health and wellness information within the school community.
- Support school‑wide initiatives related to mental health, nutrition, and physical well‑being.
- Work closely with teachers, counselors, and parents to support students’ health needs.
- Participate in IEP and 504 planning as needed for students with medical conditions.
- Communicate with healthcare providers and local health agencies when appropriate.
- Assist in developing and implementing emergency care plans.
- Maintain emergency medical supplies and equipment.
- Train staff in CPR, first aid, and medication administration when required.
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Kansas.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred.
- CPR and First Aid certification.
- Experience in pediatric, community, or school‑based health care.
- Strong knowledge of school health regulations, emergency protocols, and best nursing practices.
- Excellent organizational, problem‑solving, and communication skills.
- Proficiency in electronic health record systems and data management.
- Ability to sit for extended periods and perform computer‑based tasks.
- Manual dexterity to operate standard office equipment such as computers, printers, and telephones.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
- Vision and hearing abilities sufficient to perform essential job functions.
- Must be able to travel between school sites as needed.
- Ability to respond quickly to medical emergencies.
- Stamina to work occasional evenings or weekends as needed for special events or projects.
- May involve exposure to illness and communicable diseases.
185 day contract
Salary$48,000+ Commensurate with education and experience
