Position Summary / Career Interest:

The Assistant Chief Nursing Officer-Inpatient is responsible for Mission and Values implementation, operational leadership and direction of Inpatient departments. Is responsible for performance planning and improvement, clinical quality, fiscal and service results; and patient, customer and employee satisfaction.

Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions

  • Strategic Planning and Operations
  • Oversees day-to-day operations of assigned areas, programs, projects and initiatives.
  • Provides leadership and direction across nursing in areas of practice, stewardship, performance improvement and professionalism.
  • Provides leadership and direction in establishing and operationalizing a nursing strategic plan across the organization.
  • Sets organizational and Department of Nursing expectations for upholding mission, vision, values and 5-star goals in all initiatives/decisions.
  • Works collaboratively across departments and disciplines to align planning and execution of organizational goals that promotes optimal patient and family outcomes.
  • Ensures compliance with all regulatory agencies and standards governing health care delivery by continuous monitoring of clinical practices/operations and initiating improvement activities where required to proactively identify and address areas of potential non-compliance.
  • Actively prioritizes communication, expectations and improvement work to support a culture that promotes patient and staff safety
  • Excellence and Quality Outcomes
  • Establishes and assures an active plan for both self and team accountability for evaluation of quality care delivery systems, staffing effectiveness, and patient care outcomes.
  • Is a highly visible organizational leader, building strong relationships and collaborative processes.
  • Facilitates shared accountability across the organization for exceptional performance and safe, quality processes and outcomes, in partnership with the medical staff, especially in the care and service of each patient.
  • Ensures and models the discipline and rigor required daily for care areas to know their current performance to goal, improvement work and its impact on care delivery.
  • Demonstrates ability to strategically identify, plan and communicate critical success factors necessary for nursing services across the department.
  • Evaluates trended data and leads improvements in systems and processes for the Department of Nursing to ensure quality patient outcomes.
  • Fiscal Management
  • Assures the sound fiscal understanding of nursing leaders to establish and manage to budget and productivity targets.
  • Skillfully manages operational resources across the Department of Nursing and adjusts operations to achieve financial objectives;
  • Works collaboratively with the finance leaders to meet fiscal goals of the organization.
  • Places a high degree of prioritization on the ongoing work to improve current processes and workflows aligning resources to high priority work across the department.
  • Human Resource Management/People
  • Demonstrates personal effectiveness in leading the Department of Nursing and areas of responsibility toward established goals.
  • Models appropriate values and social, ethical, and organizational norms in leading others.
  • Provides leadership in human resources development, performance management processes and outcomes, and the establishment of appropriate organizational structures in collaboration with the Human Resources Department and other department leaders.
  • Delineates personnel accountabilities and empowers personnel to achieve personal, professional, and organizational goals.
