Overview
Big Lakes County is looking for a self-motivated individual to join our team as seasonal, full-time Laborer from approximately middle of May to September 2026 (depending on seasonal conditions and workload). This individual will perform a variety of labor related duties associated with the maintenance and operation of the Public Works Department and will provide support services to other County departments as required.
Responsibilities may include assisting with the gravel program, roadside vegetation control, culvert assembly and installation, and other general Public Works activities.
- Valid Alberta Class 5 driver’s license.
- Provide current driver’s abstract.
- Minimum grade 12 diploma.
- Good physical condition to perform both field and yard duties.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Must maintain confidentiality.
- Must be self‑motivated, and able to work with minimal supervision.
- Work is performed at various outdoor work sites within the County.
- Work may be performed in extreme temperatures.
- Physical job requirements:
May require lifting and carrying of up to 23 kg, bending, twisting, kneeling, squatting, and crawling. - Exposure to outdoor conditions, dust and fumes.
- Normal work week is 40 hours, but occasional overtime may be required. A full work week is not always guaranteed if weather conditions make it difficult or unsafe to work. On such days, other duties may be available, but they are not guaranteed.
- All personnel working at Big Lakes County are governed by the County’s Health & Safety Policy.
- Ensures all operations are conducted in a safe manner and in accordance with County Policies and Occupational Health & Safety Regulations.
- Required to wear correct P.P.E as per safe job procedures.
- Must check in as per Working Alone legislation.
- Must follow all safe job procedures.
