Overview
Cox Fleet is headquartered in Indianapolis and is one of the largest fleet maintenance companies in the country. We provide on‑site mobile maintenance and repair services nationwide for light, medium, and heavy‑duty trucks and trailers, along with support from 50+ service centers. Cox Fleet is currently hiring a Senior Mobile Diesel Technician.

Responsibilities- Perform scheduled preventative maintenance, DOT inspections, and follow‑up repairs on light, medium and heavy‑duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment.
- Carry out minor adjustments and repairs on truck equipment, including electrical, brake, cooling, starter/alternator, fan clutches, engine electronics, diesel steering systems, engines (gas & diesel), transmissions, clutches, and differentials.
- Diagnose, adjust and repair various truck components using handheld computers, pressure gauges, and other test instruments.
- Conduct road tests to verify vehicle functionality.
- Use sound judgment to identify problems, evaluate alternatives, and generate solutions.
- Independently manage parts inventory, perform reconciliation, and maintain company‑issued service vehicles, including safety checks and pre/post‑trip inspections.
- Communicate effectively with clients to assess needs, provide information, and resolve issues.
- Prioritize concurrent tasks and manage daily schedule with a high degree of independence.
- Use hand tools, precision instruments, diesel tools, welding equipment, lifts, and jacks.
- Document work on Repair Orders (RO) using the company iOS device and TRAIT application; upload pictures and record findings.
- Accurately complete DOT and other required forms.
- Obtain parts from approved vendors as needed.
- Collaborate with management via email or phone for approvals and repair estimates.
- Perform all work in compliance with OSHA, EPA, DOT, and internal safety policies.
- Maintain a high level of productivity and meet standard repair times.
- High School Diploma or GED with 3 years of related experience; or a related degree/certification and 5 years of experience.
- At least 3 years experience with refrigerated equipment.
- Possess a set of required hand tools for job duties.
- Valid driver's license and ability to obtain and maintain a Driver Qualification File.
- Minimum age 21.
- Must pass a DOT‑regulated pre‑employment background screening, DOT physical, and hold a current DOT medical card if applicable.
- Valid DOT medical card with more than four months remaining may be accepted in lieu of a physical.
- Required within 18 months:
- ASE T8 (PMI) certification
- ASE 608/609 certification*
- Preferred certifications:
- ASE T2 (Diesel Engines)
- ASE T3 (Drivetrain)
- ASE T4 (Brakes)
- ASE T5 (Suspension)
- ASE T6 (Electrical and Electronic Systems)
- ASE T7 (HVAC)
- ASE A8 (Engine Performance)
- ASE L1 (Advanced Engine Performance Specialist)
- ASE L2 (Electronic Diesel Engine Diagnosis Specialist)
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Physical ability to lift, bend, climb, stand, and walk for long periods; perform moderate heavy labor.
- Excellent communication—both written and verbal—within the team and with customers.
- Ability to select appropriate tools and equipment for tasks.
- Spatial judgment—accurately determine distances and positioning.
- Logical reasoning to evaluate solution options.
