Overview

Group 1 Automotive is actively hiring Main Line Automotive Technicians at our Kansas City-area dealerships, including Shawnee Mission Kia and BMW of Shawnee Mission.

We're seeking experienced, bumper-to-bumper technicians who excel at diagnostics, drivability concerns, electrical systems, suspension, brakes, engines, and transmission repairs. If you're the technician others turn to for complex problems, we want to hear from you.

As a Main Line Technician, you'll perform advanced diagnostics and repairs in a professional, high-volume dealership environment supported by modern equipment, ongoing manufacturer training, and a leadership team that understands the value of skilled technicians. This is a role for individuals who can accurately diagnose issues, develop solutions, and consistently deliver quality workmanship.

Responsibilities
  • Diagnose and repair complex mechanical and electrical vehicle concerns with accuracy and efficiency.
  • Troubleshoot drivability, engine, transmission, HVAC, brake, steering, suspension, and electrical system issues using advanced diagnostic equipment.
  • Manage repair orders independently while maintaining strong productivity and quality metrics.
  • Provide clear and detailed documentation of inspections, diagnoses, and completed repairs.
  • Work closely with Service Advisors to ensure customers receive accurate repair information and timelines.
  • Deliver high-quality workmanship in a fast-paced, high-volume dealership environment.
  • Maintain a safe, organized workspace and uphold manufacturer and dealership standards at all times.
Qualifications
  • 3-5+ years of professional automotive repair experience
  • Proven ability to run your own bay independently
  • Strong diagnostic skills with minimal supervision
  • Solid understanding of:
    • Electrical systems
    • Engine and drivability diagnostics
    • Suspension, steering, brake, and HVAC systems
  • Experience performing major repairs in an OEM dealership setting
  • Own professional-grade tools required for main line technician work
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
  • Master Technicians and advanced diagnostic techs are strongly encouraged to apply

Pay, Compensation & Benefits:

  • $40+ per flat hour for experienced Main Line Technicians
  • $50+ per flat hour for Master-Level Technicians
  • Pay is based on experience, skill level, certifications, and performance
  • Certification-based pay increases as you progress in your career
