Who are we hiring? The Sports Scientist & Data Analyst supports the optimization of player performance across the Kansas City Current and Kansas City Current II. This role applies performance science, data analytics, testing, monitoring, and applied training support to help drive an evidence‑based, player‑centered performance model. The position works closely with Athletic Trainers, Physical Therapists, S&C staff, and coaching staff to support player health, availability, and development.
What will you do?
- Build, maintain, and optimize performance data infrastructure, including pipelines, databases, and automated reporting systems.
- Design and manage data integration models combining GPS, heart‑rate, wellness, performance testing, medical, scheduling, and match data.
- Create dashboards and visualization tools for coaches, medical staff, and performance leadership.
- Develop automated ETL processes for clean, consistent, real‑time information across all clubs.
- Perform quality control on data sources, including GPS and athlete monitoring systems.
- Develop internal performance algorithms, readiness metrics, and predictive models for injury‑risk mitigation and player development.
- Provide insights on workload trends, performance benchmarks, return‑to‑play indicators, and training optimization.
- Support performance testing cycles (data capture, cleaning, processing, reporting, athlete tracking).
- Collaborate with medical & performance staff to create individualized athlete data profiles and long‑term development pathways.
- Maintain data governance, security, and compliance with league and international standards.
- Document coding workflows, data structures, and system architecture to support scalability.
- Ensure compliance with NWSL, U.S. Soccer, FIFA, and sports science best‑practice guidelines.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support the Medical & Performance Departments.
What do you need to succeed?
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Sports Science, or related field.
- Minimum 3 years of experience working with elite athletes (professional, collegiate, or Olympic).
- Experience collecting, analyzing, and reporting athlete performance data.
- Demonstrated experience with GPS, heart‑rate monitoring, and athlete‑tracking technologies.
- Ability to work non‑traditional hours, including evenings, weekends, travel, and extended days.
Preferred
- Master’s degree in a performance or sport science discipline.
- CSCS, NASM‑CES, NASM‑PES or similar certifications.
- Experience working in women’s high‑performance or multidisciplinary team settings.
